Specialty:  Commercial Maintenance

Challenges:  Lack of direction, losing money yearly, no systems in place, stressed out, working massive hours, no way out of current situation.

Strategy:  Started by getting finances and accounting in order. We then set clear monthly targets and created a strategy to fill the gap between current actuals and targets. Stage 2 was understanding the team and the skillsets of each employee. Once this was understood we started a training program and upskilled the team to increase output by over 25%. Stage 3 was opening a new division and increasing income through multiple streams. Stage 4 started a “load fund” to use on developing their own property portfolio.

Results:  Increase in income by 100% year 1, 100% year 2 and on track for another double level of growth. EIR is now almost fully systemised. Load account at this stage is almost $200,000. Business is expanding into Government and Council contracted work. 3rd Division operational and producing 5 figures. Team training is now a standard process.

Challenges:  Struggled with no project management software, outdated financial management, growing quickly but with limited structure and not clear on direction for their team.

Strategy:  Immediately invested in operating software to track projects, assets, OH&S and team members. Sourced more suitable accountants & bookkeeping professionals and invested in ongoing leadership training for the senior leadership team.

Results:  Highly visible operational management across all projects, periodic reporting through Xero and check ins with accountant quarterly and have built the team to 30 with a 95% retention rate.

Challenges:  No lead generation system in place, inconsistent sales, poor financial control due to a lack of financial understanding, lack of business direction. Jenny needed to make a decision whether to close the business or keep trading.

Strategy:  Started a prospecting strategy in order to build connections and generate leads. Ran a financial overview and conducted expense audits. Got clear on financial obligations and set targets in relation to sales & profits. Set clear business goals.

Results:  Went from doing just over $1 million a year to achieving $4 million a year in sales in only two years. This was from connecting with and converting multiple new repeat clients. Worked on financial goals and set targets to eliminate debt, build cash & become more profitable – lifting net profit from 2% to 16%. Went from having 2 paint trucks to scaling the workflow, growing the team to 15 and currently have 5 trucks on the road.

Results:  Started to time-block, delegate and outsource activities (bookkeeping) and achieved having nights & weekends back in under 3 weeks. Worked on implementing the software and started quoting, scheduling and invoicing through this, freeing up time immediately. Worked on learning about profit levers and observed financial data to set goals for the business. Currently operating with three vans and a team of five with Oliver mainly in the office and meeting new clients.

The ideas and principles of UPology, the foundation on which this business was built, were created by none other than Nick himself. He is both brilliant and unassuming, and he oversees the company’s coaching programs with authority and insight.

A former business owner in the hospitality industry, as well as a brilliantly successful high-level manager in various others, we snapped up Chris back in 2016. Chris always works with our clients one-to-one, doing everything he possibly can to get the best out of their business.
